1/1 Scale Gundam RX-78-2 Opening Ceremony

The grand opening of the 1/1 Scale Gundam RX-78-2 at Shiokaze Park at 10PM just now (July 10th)! ^^

The ceremony featured amazing show of laser beams, as you can see from the photos show. There were also speeches from Yoshiyuki Tomino-sensei and Toru Furuya, the seiyuu for Amuro Ray, pilot of Gundam RX-78-2. The ceremony also featured guest appearance of GACKT, and he performed right beneath the statue.

A video clip featuring the speech made by Yoshiyuki Tomino-sensei - not exactly useful for fans who don't know Japanese, and the camera is focusing on the statue all the time as well ^^;

More reports about the statue today no doubt, as it welcomes the first "official" batch of visitors - folks were happily visiting the park admiring it even when the construction was still in progress anyway. ^^

Fans who are planning to take the pilgrimage to Shiokaze Park please do so before August 31st. That's the last day the statue will stay at the park. At the moment, where will it be after that date is still undisclosed.

On a related note, a new book is coming, specially published to commemorate the completion of the statue, called "Real-G 1/1scale Gundam Photographs".

The book has three components:
- Real G: photos of the statue from various angles
- Buitd (Build - ?) G: photos of the construction in progress
- Make G: introduces all the process involved from design to construction of the statue

July 31st release, 1,050 Yen (inclusive of tax).
