Part Swapping for MG Unicorn

I just read the news on Hong Kong Model League: the V fin of MG Unicorn included two option for the transformation between the normal and NT-D modes: direct transformation and part swapping.

Apparently, the latest photo set of MG Unicorn was from Miyazawa Autumn 2007 Model Exhibition, and it was explained that the plan to use part swapping for the V fin is for the beauty of the completed model (obviously). Although Hajime Katoki-senshe insisted initially that the head will require no part swapping for the transformation, and bandai did produce the prototype for that, two options for the V-fin are included to maintain the beauty of the two modes.

OK, first thing first, that was what I read from the forum, which is some reader's understanding of the text on GA Graphics. I'm just reporting on what I read. However, I sure hope someone who understand Japanese text can help to confirm it.

I think part swapping is good for Unicorn, and the reason given is well justified. For such the delicate V-fin, no part swapping sure will loosen it, and repetitive playing will no doubt damage it. Remember, when the fins are being closed, they must be very firm to hide the split in between. So when you try to open them later for the NT-D mode, certain degree of damage is unavoidable. I believe it's not too friendly for painting as well, since the paint may be scratched off easily when the V-fin is opened and closed.

Although a direct transformation would be awesome, but part-swapping isn't a bad idea anyway.

In the end, that just adds another cool reason why this model is a must-get right? XD

The overall model is also super-duper cool. I really love the very conventional Gundam face design of Unicorn. It's quite a while since we get a model with such close reference to the original Gundam. With fang-like-splits (Destiny), no-vernier (Exia), and fang-like-splits-with-no-vernier (Kyrios) and other face designs seen on recent Gundams, Unicorn sure looks very welcoming for me XD

But again, not to distort your understanding about this kit ^^; the news of the part swapping reported in this posting is from the forum and has NOT being confirmed yet by the Gunpla community. Plus, it's still a month away from the final release date, plans may change. So, the safest way is: stay tuned for more information in the future ^^

On the other hand, there are other cool Gundam merchandises on display during Miyazawa Autumn 2007 Model Exhibition:

1/60 scale Gundam Exia

1/100 Kyrios. I wonder if there's a display stand included for the MA mode. By the way, you can take a glimpse at 1/144 Graham's Customized Union Flag on the left of the picture.

The free gift included in the December issue of Dengeki Hobby Japan which allows you to convert your HG 1/144 Exia to Gundam Astraea.

MG Sazabi Metallic Ver.

Gundam Fix Figuration Metal Composite 1/100 Casval's Gundam.

All images from Miyazawa Autumn 2007 Model Exhibition's photo galley. It seems like this event is mainly on figures, so if you like cute or sexy figurines, make sure to bookmark that page ^^

Lastly, let me show you the box cover of SD Sangokuden Lu Bu:

Looks nice ^_^
